i took this while doing research for ‘the black wood’ exhibition last year. though i didn’t use it in the exhibition, to me, this photo kind of captures the core of the concepts we were trying to communicate with ‘the black wood’.

everyone needs a good picture of a swan. took this one with my LC-a+ and cross processed kodak ektachrome ebx.

my son’s first horseback ride. this is the end of the roll and i only got half the frame; fortunately it was just enough to capture this moment. shot this with very expired film on my new old LCA (the original russian one).

i took this photo more than a year ago and it’s been lying around. i haven’t liked it until today. it was very overexposed as i had my holga set to bulb mode and didn’t know it. i also didn’t really like the angle of the shot when i got it back from the lab. but today, i was sifting through my files and it caught my eye and suddenly it had more significance. maybe i’m just a year older.

this is an image i took while working on ‘The Black Wood’ an exhibition i collaborated on with my friend, mao soviet. i took it in a community we visited to talk to residents about the process of their homes and businesses being taken from them for commercial development. according to neighbors, for the destruction of their homes, the residents of trashed houses in the foreground were compensated between $1300 and $2000. Owners of the wooden houses in the the background are being offered somewhere between $200 and $500. I plan to post more about ‘The Black Wood’ in the exhibition tab soon. (Btw, for you camera/film people; i took this on lomography chrome 100 with my l-ca+ which was recently stolen. =( she’ll be dearly missed.)

i haven’t posted in a while, because i’ve been working on pieces for this. i’m collaborating with my friend, chantha. i’ve created some transfer pieces over acrylic colored canvasses and chantha has drawn portraits of some inspiring figures of Cambodia’s past and present into the empty spaces of the images. it’s our first time working together on a project and we’ve had a lot of fun. this is the front of the flyer i designed for the opening. the exhibition opens this sunday (july 22) at 7 p.m.; if you find yourself in phnom penh with nothing to do, please drop in for some free food and drink and have a look at our work. look for photos coming soon in the exhibitions section of this site.

the longer we live in this neighborhood, the less i need a watch or a phone to tell me what time it is. the area has its own rhythms. in the late afternoon, food carts begin to appear in increasing numbers and serve snacks to get us through till dinner. took this with my L-CA+ and kodak bw400cn. it’s a little dark (maybe my scanning error), but i still like how the shadows turned out.
